American Cancer Society’s 12th Annual Starry Night Gala: An Enchanted Evening of Hopes and Dreams
For the past twelve years, we’ve gathered on this night to celebrate the accomplishments of the American Cancer Society and to look forward by raising money for more research, more treatment options and more survivors. Since our last gala, we’ve lost more friends and family members to this horrible disease. That’s why we are here together this night…because the fight is not yet over. We have more work to do. This year’s honorees have and continue to do that work each and every day. They are saving lives, AND looking for answers to support all the American Cancer Society’s work.
These are our Inspirers of Hope:
Corporate Honoree | Sanjeev Luther, President and CEO, Rafael Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Medical Honoree | Eric D. Whitman, MD, FACS, Medical Director, Atlantic Health System
Cancer Care, Director, Atlantic Melanoma Center
Shining Star Community Award | Ron Sharpe, Broadway Performer & Producer, Russell-Sharpe Theatrical Productions Inc.
Karen Sperling Greene Humanitarian Award Posthumous | Karen D. Schupak, MD, Former Chief, External Beam Radiotherapy, Central New Jersey, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
These professionals and the American Cancer Society are the reasons that medical miracles continue to happen, that families continue to receive support, and that lives continue to be saved. These professionals and the American Cancer Society are why we are involved in this event year after year. The opportunity to spend our time in support of cancer research, cancer treatment, and most importantly, cancer recovery brings us back to do more with each passing year.
With every person who walks through these doors, we get closer to a cure, closer to eradicating a disease that destroys so many lives and so many families. It’s the challenge of seeing what each year will bring and the reward of recognizing the fruits of our labor when all is said and done. Thank you all for your continued support throughout the years. Your energy, creativity and engagement are what makes the Starry Night Gala the beautiful celebration that it is each year.
Please join us this year!!!

For more than 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
